E-Commerce with an emphasis on Social Technologies
I’ve officially passed the largest gap in time for an update to the blog since I started back five years ago. Two things: First, I kind of wanted leave the last post up for a little extra time – personal reasons. Second, so much has happened since then… vacation, a few trips, a few visitors, some tech problems to deal with, etc. But in the meantime, I’ve been glad to have Twitter/Linkedin and SmugMug to keep updates moving through the channels.
Benefits Selling Expo 2010 thoughts – the migration from Group to Individual for health insurance and benefits is underway. I heard it said a number of times here, “Employers are looking for ways to cut their staff to part-time and freelance so they don’t have to offer all these benefits under Obamacare.” No surprise there, right?!! Crowdsourcing is really going to be an amazing phenomenon within the this context. I think it was already going to be big, but now with big brother increasing costs, etc.…. Lot of interest in Social Tech – what is it, why it’s important, how to leverage it, how to do it. There is SO much misunderstanding about social tech in the insurance community. I was talking to someone this morning at breakfast and their comment about Facebook was, “My wife is on Facebook. Her friends say the most inane things on there like, ‘I went out and bought a ham.’ I don’t see the value…” Needless to say, I went on the explain the opportunity in appropriate terms and in a way he could understand for his business. Actually, he went on to say, “What we need is something like that for business.” So I mentioned Linkedin. “Oh yeah, I’m in there but I don’t really do anything with it.” Classic. It is for reasons like this that I am promoting Social Tech seminars within the insurance space.
Speaking of Social Tech, I was referred to a group that has a fantastic suite of Social Tech tools for harnessing the power of Web 2.0. More on that as things develop. I’m not sure where all this is going, but one thing’s for sure: It’s going somewhere. And I’m excited to be in the middle of it. So I’m excited to be taking delivery later this week of new Apple technology to run my enterprise – I saved up for a Macbook Pro 15”. I will be learning Keynote, iWork, iPhoto, and iMovie. My hope is that these tools will greatly enhance my value prop as well as the speed and quality on my output. Then, when Verizon comes out with the iPhone, I’ll upgrade to that. Lastly, I’m thinking a next-gen iPad will round out the transition later this year. If you have any suggestions for enhancing my new journey into the Apple orchard, please Comment below.
